Bank Notes and Coins with Portrait of Various Scientists


Brief Introduction

This Blog is for all who interested to know about the currencies and coins issued by various nations, trying to gather, compile the various details and varieties of banknotes and coins issued to honour various scientist and famous personalities,  available to my knowledge will be displayed here with proper details.

Those who want to contribute also welcome here to add their views. Most of the images of coins and Banknotes displayed here in this blog is from my personal collection which was collected over past 12 years.

First Scientist Like to post is

NICOLA TESLA
Year 1856 - 1943
He is known as a man who tamed electricity, the main contribution of Tesla to electricity was AC ( Alternating Current) and Transformers


The republic of Yugoslavia (Now known as Serbia) Issued currencies from 1970 to till date with various denominations, details like date of Issue, signature varieties, Specimens, Replacement note etc., total varieties are 24 in numbers, which will be published soon.....


Denomination          : 500 Dinara
Years of issue          : 1970, 1978, 1981 and 1986
Colour of the Note : Olive green on multicolor under-print.


Details about of the currency 


Obverse : Statue of Nicola Tesla seated with Open book at left, Long 2 lines signature title at left and different signature


Reverse : Large numerals of Value at left centre


Variety 1 : Dated 01.08.1970


Signature : Branislav Colanovich - Vice Governor / Nicola Maljanich - Governor
Remark : Note is yet to get in my collection


Variety 2 : Dated 01.08.1970



Signature : Branislav Colanovich - Vice Governor / Ivo Perishin - Governor


This is variety with Security Thread with same date of 01.08.1970  


Variety 3 : Dated 01.08.1970

Signature : Branislav Colanovich - Vice Governor / Ivo Perishin - Governor
This is the variety without Security Thread with same date of 01.08.1970 - Seems to be Scarce

Variety 4 : Dated 12.08.1978

Signature : Ilija Marjanovich - Vice Governor / Ksente Bogolev - Governor

  1. Good start for an interesting blog. Somehow scientists are usually not among those faces the Governments tend to put on money (as the politicians occupied this space for themselves). More exciting will it be to see the differences among different nations honoring their scientists.
    An interesting thing would be to see if there is a correlation between the number of Nobel prize winners and the number of those appearing on coins and notes of respective nations. Another intriguing task would be to see which states tend to favour scientists on their currencies.
